Magic Dragon Brewing Triumphs with Eight Awards at Indie Beer Cymru

Magic Dragon Brewing, based in Wrexham, celebrated a remarkable achievement by winning eight awards at the inaugural Indie Beer Cymru competition in Haverfordwest. The event highlighted the best of independent brewing in Wales, showcasing the creativity and quality of local producers.
Among the standout beers, the brewery’s House of Coffee porter received the Gold award in the Specialty Amber to Dark Beer category and was recognized as the third overall Champion Cask Beer of Wales. Additionally, Magic Dragon’s Nectaron IPA garnered significant attention, taking home Gold for Best Keg IPA and earning the title of Category Champion.
The brewery’s success extended to other offerings as well. The Dolphin IPA, Dr. G IPA, and Hufen Lager each received Silver awards, while Old Magic Mild and Obsidian Stout secured Bronze accolades. This impressive haul underscores the brewery’s commitment to quality and innovation in a competitive field.
Recognition and Future Opportunities
The Indie Beer Cymru Awards, organized by the Society of Independent Brewers and Associates (SIBA), took place just prior to the first-ever Indie Beer Cymru festival. This festival, which occurred on March 15 and 16, 2024, in Haverfordwest, aims to celebrate and promote independent breweries throughout the UK.
Anneli Baxter, chair of the SIBA competitions, commended the high caliber of entries, stating, “The quality of beers across the competition was incredibly high, so huge congratulations to all the great breweries named winners in their style category. With so many great beers in the running, you should be truly proud of taking home the win.”
Winning beers from the competition, including those from Magic Dragon Brewing, will be showcased at the festival and will advance to compete in the national finals scheduled for early next year. This recognition not only highlights the brewery’s achievements but also contributes to the broader initiative promoting independent breweries in the UK.
Magic Dragon Brewing operates from The Plassey Holiday Park, located just outside Wrexham. They also run the Magic Dragon Brewery Tap on Charles Street in Wrexham city centre, providing ample opportunities for local patrons to experience their award-winning beers firsthand.
