Kotor Event Highlights Use of Lime Mortars in Architecture
A significant event will take place in Kotor, Montenegro, on September 29, 2025, focusing on the use of lime mortars in traditional architecture. The Cultural Centre “Nikola Đurković,” in collaboration with the non-governmental organization Expeditio and supported by the Ministry of Culture and Media of Montenegro, will present research and a publication titled “Application of Lime Mortars in Traditional Architecture of Boka Kotorska.”
The presentation is scheduled for 19:00 in the Multimedia Hall of the Cultural Centre. This event forms part of the European Heritage Days 2025, aimed at celebrating and promoting cultural heritage across Europe.
Katarina Lisavac and Aleksandra Kapetanović, both architects and conservators, will discuss the findings of the research and the importance of using lime mortars for preserving and restoring the traditional architecture of Boka Kotorska. Their expertise highlights the significance of these materials in maintaining the region’s historical integrity.
The event will be moderated by Jasmina Bajo, who will guide the conversation and encourage audience engagement. This publication and its research contribute significantly to preserving cultural heritage and promoting sustainable building techniques based on traditional knowledge and materials.
Attendees will gain insights into the historical context of lime mortar usage and its application in contemporary restoration practices. The presentation aims to inspire ongoing dialogue about sustainable architecture and the importance of cultural heritage preservation in the face of modernization.
This initiative underscores the commitment of local organizations and government bodies to safeguard the architectural legacy of Montenegro, particularly in the scenic Boka Kotorska region, known for its rich cultural history and stunning landscapes. By focusing on traditional methods, the event seeks to foster a greater appreciation for local materials and techniques that have stood the test of time.
The Cultural Centre “Nikola Đurković” and its partners invite the public to participate in this enriching experience, contributing to the broader conversation about heritage and sustainability.
