KFC and Greggs Launch Unique Sausage Roll with Gravy
KFC and Greggs have announced a collaboration to create a new dish that combines two popular British favorites: a sausage roll served with KFC’s iconic gravy. This limited-time offering has been described as a “culinary crossover of the century,” highlighting the unique blend of flavors that fans have long desired.
The new dish features a sausage roll enveloped in flaky puff pastry and generously topped with KFC’s distinctive gravy. This initiative comes in response to increasing consumer interest, as British customers reportedly consumed an average of 15,000 liters of KFC gravy daily alongside over 1,000,000 Greggs sausage rolls in the past year.
Free samples of the sausage roll with gravy will be available during a three-day promotional tour across the UK. The tour begins at London’s Southbank Centre on August 7, 2023, before moving to Manchester’s St Anne’s Square on August 8, and concluding in Newcastle’s Times Square on August 9.
In addition to the tasting events, a sharing bucket containing six sausage rolls and a large tub of gravy will be available for £10 through Uber Eats on August 15 and August 16. This special offer will be accessible in London, Manchester, Birmingham, and Newcastle, but supplies are expected to be limited.
The collaboration was inspired by enthusiastic fans who have expressed a desire for this flavor combination. “At KFC, we bleed gravy,” remarked KFC’s brand manager, Phoebe Syms. She noted that consumers have long called for a partnership with Greggs to create a sausage roll collaboration.
Fiona Mills, the brand communications lead at Greggs, emphasized the quality of their sausage rolls, stating, “With 96 layers of light puff pastry, and perfectly baked to give that satisfying golden crisp and flaky goodness, we’ve always known our sausage rolls are a true British icon. And why not pair one icon with another?”
The popularity of gravy as a dipping sauce has been a topic of discussion among culinary enthusiasts. In fact, many fans have taken to platforms like Reddit to share their love for using gravy with sausage rolls. One user, @Deep_Ad_9889, expressed a preference for “a good thick gravy” over ketchup, while others have suggested various sauce combinations to elevate their sausage roll experience.
The launch of this unique dish marks a significant moment for both brands, showcasing their ability to innovate and respond to consumer demand. As KFC and Greggs prepare to roll out their sausage roll with gravy, fans are eagerly anticipating this exciting new addition to their menus.
