English Teacher Arrested for Threatening US Embassy in Montenegro

An English teacher from Rožaje, identified as A.K., has been arrested after sending a threatening email to the United States Embassy in Montenegro. The message, directed at the embassy’s administration and senior officials, prompted immediate action from local law enforcement.

Officers from the Police Administration’s Sector for Personal and Object Security responded swiftly to the report of the threatening correspondence. They coordinated with other police units to investigate the matter thoroughly. Following their efforts, the Regional Security Center “North” successfully identified and located A.K., a 35-year-old resident of Rožaje.

According to the Police Administration, the Rožaje police acted without delay, apprehending A.K. and collecting statements in their official premises. During questioning, A.K. admitted to sending the email from his laptop. Subsequently, authorities executed a search warrant at his residence, where they discovered and confiscated the aforementioned laptop.

The incident has been brought to the attention of the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Rožaje. Prosecutors determined that A.K.‘s actions did not constitute a criminal offense but rather a violation of public order. Consequently, he was detained for allegedly breaching Article 7 of the Law on Public Order and Peace, which pertains to insulting or disorderly behavior.

A.K. is employed as an English teacher at a secondary school in Rožaje. Background checks revealed that he had previously been reported and prosecuted for domestic violence, raising concerns about his previous conduct.

This incident highlights the serious nature of threats made against diplomatic missions and the swift response required to ensure public safety. The police remain vigilant in addressing any threats to security, particularly those involving international entities.
