Prince William Speaks on Family Cancer Struggles in New Series

The Prince of Wales, William, recently shared poignant reflections on his family’s health challenges, particularly cancer diagnoses that have emerged within the royal family. In an interview with actor Eugene Levy for the travel series *The Reluctant Traveller*, William likened the sudden onset of these health issues to having the “rug pulled from under your feet.”
William highlighted the royal family’s previous good fortune regarding health, noting that both his grandparents, the late Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh, enjoyed long lives into their nineties. He remarked, “We’ve been very lucky… so we’ve been very lucky as a family.” This perspective made the recent diagnoses feel even more shocking.
In early 2024, both the Princess of Wales and King Charles III announced their cancer diagnoses, sparking considerable concern among the public and royal supporters. During the interview, William reflected on the family’s historically positive outlook, suggesting that such optimism can lead one to believe, “It won’t happen to us, we’ll be okay.” He acknowledged that the reality of a serious illness can lead to difficult emotional places.
In a video shared in March 2024, Kate Middleton revealed she was undergoing treatment for cancer. In a subsequent update, Kate announced that she is now in remission, expressing relief and a renewed focus on recovery. “As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal,” she stated, highlighting the emotional toll of the journey.
King Charles III has also been receiving ongoing treatment for an undisclosed type of cancer but has continued to fulfill his royal duties both domestically and internationally. His resilience in the face of health challenges has garnered attention and support from the public.
During the episode of *The Reluctant Traveller*, which is available on Apple TV+, William guided Levy through Windsor Castle and shared moments that showcased the lighter side of royal life. Levy, surprised by William’s arrival on an electric scooter, remarked on his own reluctance to embrace such adventures, to which William responded, “It gets around quite nicely around here, it’s quite fun.”
The candid discussion about health within the royal family not only sheds light on their personal struggles but also resonates with many who have faced similar challenges. As they navigate these difficulties, the royals continue to emphasize the importance of family support and the value of maintaining a positive outlook in the face of adversity.
