Prince William’s Unconventional Naming Ideas for George Revealed
In a new biography, Prince William is described as having suggested a range of unconventional names for his first child, Prince George. The book, titled *William and Catherine: The Intimate Inside Story*, authored by Russell Myers, reveals insights into the couple’s naming discussions prior to George’s birth in 2013.
The biography highlights that William and Catherine, the Princess of Wales, spent considerable time deliberating over names. According to Myers, they “spent hours” exploring options, with William proposing unexpected choices that often elicited laughter. The book draws from exclusive interviews with palace insiders, offering a detailed account of the couple’s early experiences as parents.
Exploring Names for Their Firstborn
As Catherine approached the five-month mark of her pregnancy, the couple began preparing for their child’s arrival by purchasing neutral baby clothes. They opted to keep the baby’s sex a secret, which added to the excitement surrounding their naming decisions. The biography reveals a notable disagreement: while Catherine preferred the name Alexander for a boy or Alexandra for a girl, William privately expressed a desire for a girl and wanted to honor his late mother through a middle name.
Catherine sought inspiration from friends who had recently welcomed children and received a baby names book from a close friend. The couple is said to have spent hours perusing the book, often resulting in fits of laughter over the more unusual suggestions. Myers recounts how William would initiate discussions with his communications team by throwing out quirky names like “Rodney” or “Graham,” waiting for their reactions before breaking into laughter.
Ultimately, William preferred a more traditional route and narrowed the options down to two names for a boy: George and Louis. This decision reflects a blend of modern parenting choices and respect for royal tradition.
Insights into the Royal Family’s Journey
The biography goes beyond naming decisions, also exploring significant moments in the lives of the Prince and Princess of Wales. It discusses how William has managed family dynamics following Catherine’s cancer diagnosis, navigated public criticisms from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, and addressed tensions with his father, King Charles, regarding the conduct of Prince Andrew.
Myers has dedicated nearly a decade to following the royal couple and believes this work reveals much more than public appearances suggest. He describes the biography as an intimate portrait that explores their love, resilience, and the challenges they face as they modernize the monarchy in a changing world.
The book is now available for pre-order and promises to provide a comprehensive view of William and Catherine’s journey from their early days at St Andrews University to their roles as modern royals. Myers emphasizes that it aims to uncover the personal and public narratives that define their experiences, offering readers a deeper understanding of their lives.
