Person Hospitalized with Life-Changing Injuries After Train Incident
A person was taken to hospital with life-changing injuries following an incident on the railway tracks near Bury St Edmunds railway station on August 18, 2023. The British Transport Police responded to reports of a casualty shortly after 14:20 local time.
Emergency services, including police officers and paramedics, arrived at the scene to assist the individual, who was subsequently transported to a hospital. Authorities have indicated that the incident does not appear to be suspicious.
Impact on Train Services
The incident has caused significant disruptions to train services between Ipswich, Cambridge, and Peterborough. According to the National Rail website, trains are currently unable to operate on the line towards Ipswich from Bury St Edmunds, leading to cancellations and delays of up to 30 minutes. The disruption is expected to continue until at least 17:00.
A police spokesperson stated, “Officers were called to a report of a casualty on the tracks just after 14:20 today near Bury St Edmunds railway station. Officers and paramedics attended, and a person has been taken to hospital with life-changing injuries. The incident is not thought to be suspicious.”
