At a press conference on December 11, 2023, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed the issue. She attributed the bruising to Trump’s frequent interactions, stating, “The president is literally constantly shaking hands. The Oval Office is like Grand Central Terminal. He is meeting with more people than any of you know about on a daily basis.”

Leavitt also mentioned that Trump is on a daily aspirin regimen, which, according to his past physical examinations, could contribute to the visible bruising. Earlier this month, Trump took to Truth Social to counter claims regarding his health and cognitive abilities. He stated that he had completed another “Cognitive Examination” in front of numerous medical professionals, asserting that he “ACED” the test. In his post, he expressed frustration at media narratives suggesting he is “slowing down” or experiencing declining health.

“Despite all of this, the time and work involved,” Trump wrote, “The New York Times, and some others, like to pretend that I am ‘slowing up,’ am maybe not as sharp as I once was, or am in poor physical health, knowing that it is not true.” He emphasized that he believes it is “seditious” for the media to publish what he termed “FAKE reports” that undermine his position as the President of the United States.
