New Maps Set for ARC Raiders as Developer Unveils 2026 Plans
The developer of the popular extraction shooter, ARC Raiders, has announced plans to introduce multiple new maps in 2026. This confirmation came from Virgil Watkins, a design lead at Embark Studios, during an interview with GamesRadar+. The addition of these maps is aimed at enhancing gameplay options for the community of dedicated players.
Currently, ARC Raiders offers five primary maps, each featuring distinct themes and loot opportunities. Players typically unlock these maps by engaging in matches, with many having accessed all five by now. The game’s dynamic nature ensures that no two matches feel alike, as players navigate encounters with enemy ARC robots and other scavengers. Given the ongoing content updates typical for live service games, the introduction of new maps has been a topic of anticipation among the player base.
New Gameplay Experiences on the Horizon
Watkins revealed that the forthcoming maps will vary in size to accommodate different gameplay styles. “There are going to be multiple maps coming this year, and I think it’s going to be across a spectrum of size to try to facilitate different types of gameplay,” he stated. He further elaborated that players could expect both smaller maps and larger, more expansive play spaces, comparable to the game’s largest current map, Spaceport, which measures approximately 1.6 x 1.4 km.
In addition to size variations, Watkins hinted at the possibility of introducing new weather events that could alter gameplay experiences. “The ambition is to try to pair it with some new type of experience,” he said, referring to potential changes in map conditions, enemy types, and available loot. This proactive approach aims to keep the gameplay fresh and engaging for existing players while attracting new ones.
Player Engagement and Future Competitiveness
The last significant update for ARC Raiders was released in December 2023, featuring the Cold Snap expansion. This update introduced a Frostbite gameplay mechanic, where players sustain damage during snowstorms, alongside a new Goalie Raider Deck for progression. Despite the absence of new maps in that update, the game has maintained a robust player community, averaging around 350,000 daily players.
Looking ahead, Bungie’s Marathon is emerging as a competitor in the extraction genre, raising questions about how Embark Studios will respond to maintain ARC Raiders‘ competitive edge. As new maps are set to roll out, players remain hopeful for an enriched experience that keeps the excitement of the game alive.
