Kate Middleton Embraces Ring Stacking Trend with New Jewelry

The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, made a striking return to royal duties at the recent Wimbledon Championship, showcasing a new approach to her jewelry collection. Following her chemotherapy treatment last year, she has frequently been seen wearing a new £4,700 eternity ring, believed to be the Étincelle de Cartier wedding band. This addition marks a departure from her more iconic 12-carat oval-cut Ceylon sapphire engagement ring, which was inherited from Princess Diana after her passing.
Throughout the past year, Kate has often opted for the platinum eternity ring, which features a stunning arrangement of 19 brilliant-cut diamonds and 19 brilliant-cut sapphires. This choice has resulted in much speculation regarding her jewelry preferences, particularly why she has frequently chosen the smaller ring over her more traditional engagement ring. Observers noted that the eternity ring paired well with her wedding band and another diamond eternity ring, thought to have been gifted by Prince William to celebrate the birth of their son Prince George in 2013.
During her appearance at Wimbledon, Kate opted for a bold statement by wearing her engagement ring alongside the two eternity rings and her wedding band. This combination not only underscores her evolving style but also aligns with the growing trend of ring stacking. Eliza Walter, founder of Lylie Jewellery, highlighted this shift, stating, “We’re increasingly seeing clients choose to style their eternity ring stacked with their engagement ring and wedding band, or wear it alone for a more relaxed look.”
The trend of ring stacking has particularly gained traction among brides, especially during warmer months or vacations, when many prefer a simpler, yet meaningful combination of their wedding and eternity rings.
Eternity rings hold significant sentimental value, often commemorating life’s milestones. There is speculation that Kate’s Étincelle de Cartier wedding band was a gift from William to celebrate their 13th wedding anniversary last year. Jeweller Rachel Boston elaborated on the meaning behind eternity rings, explaining, “The continuous line of diamonds or gemstones is a reminder that, like the ring itself, true love has no beginning or end.”
As Kate Middleton embraces this popular jewelry trend, her choices reflect not only personal style but also deeper emotional connections. The combination of her rings, each potentially carrying its own story, suggests that ring stacking may continue to flourish, especially when each piece embodies significant memories and relationships.
With the spotlight on her unique jewelry choices, it seems that Kate is not just setting trends but also embracing a collection that is deeply personal and reflective of her journey.
