Influencer Couple Sparks Debate with Unique Baby Name Choice

An influencer couple has ignited a lively discussion online after announcing the name they have chosen for their newborn daughter. Liana and Connor, who are popular figures on social media, revealed the name “Sandle” during a recent episode of their podcast, *Koazy Corner*. The couple, who are expecting their daughter imminently, previously attracted attention for naming their son “Koazy.”
Liana and Connor have shared that family influence played a role in selecting the name Sandle. Liana’s mother is named Sandra, while Connor’s mother is Rachel. Liana explained, “It took us a while. When we first came up with it, we thought it might be a bit abnormal, but obviously we don’t care – if we like the name, we’re going to use it anyway.” Connor added, “We could call our baby Jess and people would have a problem with it!”
Despite the couple’s confidence, they acknowledged that the name is not set in stone until their daughter arrives. Following their announcement, a video clip was shared on TikTok, prompting a flurry of reactions from viewers.
Public Reaction to Unique Name
Responses to the name announcement have been mixed. Some users expressed frustration over the trend of unconventional names. One commenter lamented, “In 40 years, we’re gonna have no nice normal names left,” referencing a desire for more traditional names like Liam or John. Others felt that Sandle went too far, with one remarking, “I think they have gone too far … Koazy was a bit unnatural but still cute; this one isn’t very cute.”
Conversely, several commenters defended the couple’s choice. A supporter stated, “I don’t get why people can’t just let them name their kids in peace. They want it to be a unique name; that’s the whole point.” Another added, “That’s actually cute – like her nickname might be Sandy.”
This incident follows a previous wave of backlash when the couple introduced the name Koazy. Liana addressed the criticism at the time in a TikTok video, stating, “I knew everyone wasn’t going to love the name, so I am not going to sit here defending it. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.”
Trends in Baby Naming
The discussion surrounding unique baby names is not new. According to linguistic expert Babbel, there is an observable shift toward shorter, playful names that reflect current minimalist trends in society. Names traditionally used as nicknames, such as Freddie and Theo, are becoming increasingly popular. Additionally, nature-inspired names like River and Lily are on the rise.
As more parents opt for distinctive names, debates about the appropriateness and future implications of such choices continue. Critics often question whether unconventional names may pose challenges for children as they grow. Yet, many argue that parents should have the freedom to choose names that hold personal significance.
As Liana and Connor await the arrival of their daughter, they remain steadfast in their decision to embrace unique naming conventions. The couple’s journey highlights the ongoing dialogue about identity and the significance of names in modern society.
