Woodlarks Centre Celebrates 75 Years with Expansion Plans

The Woodlarks Centre, located near Farnham, marked its 75th anniversary on March 15, 2024, with a celebratory event highlighting its commitment to compassionate care for individuals with disabilities. Founded in 1949, the centre has evolved over the decades, developing innovative approaches to support its residents. The anniversary celebration featured music from Simply Swing, creating an enjoyable atmosphere for residents, caregivers, and guests who indulged in a variety of food and drinks under pleasant weather.
The event culminated in a ceremonial cake-cutting by Catherine Crawford, granddaughter of the centre’s founders, Dorothea and Colonel Martyn Strover. Attendees included Cllr Adeel Shah from the East Hampshire District Council, who offered a toast to the team’s work and future endeavors. Also present was Graham White, deputy mayor of Farnham Town Council, who reiterated the council’s support for the centre.
Future Development Plans for Woodlarks Centre
Beyond the anniversary festivities, the leadership at Woodlarks announced significant expansion plans. Lynda Pattie, chief executive of Woodlarks, and Simon Tarrant, chairman of the trustees, revealed that planning permission has been granted for a new wing at the facility. This development aims to enhance the centre’s capabilities, allowing it to accommodate a greater number of residents while providing top-quality facilities.
The new construction will feature a dedicated physiotherapy suite, a dining room and kitchen area, an additional lift, meeting rooms, and an administrative suite. Local architects Stedman Blower have crafted detailed plans for the project, which were shared during the reception. The estimated budget for the expansion is set at £6 million, and fundraising efforts are already underway.
A spokesperson for the Woodlarks Centre expressed optimism about the future, stating, “Woodlarks clearly have an impressive future, building on 75 years of devoted care.” As the centre embarks on this new chapter, it aims to maintain its legacy of providing exceptional support for individuals with disabilities while adapting to the growing needs of the community.
