Netflix Unveils New Series on Kennedy Family’s Legacy

Netflix has announced an upcoming drama series titled Kennedy, which will explore one of the most renowned political dynasties in American history. The series promises an intimate and dramatic insight into the rise of the Kennedy family, examining their power, ambitions, and personal relationships. Often regarded as America’s closest equivalent to a royal family, the Kennedys will be portrayed in depth, delving into their complex past.

The narrative of Kennedy will track the lives of Joe and Rose Kennedy and their nine children, starting from the 1930s. Central to the storyline are themes of power, family dynamics, ambitions, and the personal challenges they faced. A significant focus will be on the early years of John F. Kennedy, affectionately known as “Jack,” highlighting his struggle to emerge from the shadow of his older brother.

Michael Fassbender will take on the role of family patriarch Joe Kennedy Sr., while Laura Donnelly will portray his wife, Rose Kennedy. Nick Robinson will play their eldest son, Joe Kennedy Jr., and Joshua Melnick will embody the young Jack Kennedy. The supporting cast includes Imogen Poots as Hollywood actress Gloria Swanson, Ben Miles as trusted aide Eddie Muir, Lydia Peckham as Rosemary Kennedy, Saura Lightfoot-Leon as Kick Kennedy, and Cole Doman as Lem Billings, a close friend of John F. Kennedy.

The series is created by Sam Shaw and directed by acclaimed filmmaker Thomas Vinterberg. Production is being handled by Chernin Entertainment, with the series based on the book by esteemed historian Frederik Logevall, titled JFK: Coming of Age in the American Century, 1917–1956. This historical foundation adds significant depth to the project.

Although Netflix has not yet announced an official release date, the first season is expected to comprise eight episodes. Given the scale of the production, it is anticipated that the series could debut in late 2026 or early 2027.
