Heavy Rains Flood Home of Niksic Family Again, Urgent Aid Needed

Heavy rains in Nikšić have once again resulted in severe flooding, affecting the home of the Krasnići family, which consists of seven members. This incident, which occurred early this morning, has compounded the family’s ongoing struggles with previous flooding events. According to the NGO Center for Affirmation of Roma and Egyptian Population (CAREP), the family has faced significant challenges in maintaining a stable living environment due to repeated water damage.

The Krasnići family, which includes parents and five children, resides in the Trebjesa neighborhood. The persistent flooding has caused material losses and has intensified the need for urgent support. In a statement released by CAREP, the organization highlighted the dire situation, emphasizing the family’s ongoing hardships and their need for adequate living conditions.

In response to the crisis, CAREP, in collaboration with the Volunteers of Montenegro Foundation, is providing temporary assistance in the form of food and hygiene supplies. The organization expressed gratitude to the local firefighters from Nikšić, who have intervened multiple times to help protect the family’s home from further damage.

Local authorities in Nikšić have been informed of the situation. Milajim Delija, an independent advisor for the protection of the rights of Roma and Egyptian populations in the municipality, stated that discussions are underway to explore long-term solutions that align with existing procedures and capabilities.

The Krasnići family has also expressed a desire for employment opportunities. CAREP has issued an open call to institutions and public enterprises to consider hiring individuals from socially vulnerable families, including the Krasnićis, if there is a demand for labor.
