Citizens of Cetinje Honor Victims of January Tragedy

Citizens of Cetinje gathered today at 15:00 local time in front of the Lovćen Villa monument to honor the victims of a tragic event that occurred on January 1, 2023. The ceremony marked the anniversary of the deaths of 13 innocent residents of Cetinje, who lost their lives in a series of mass shootings.

The event was organized by the civic group Stega, which aims to raise awareness of the impact of violence on the community. During the gathering, representatives from Stega announced their intention to formally request the Municipality of Cetinje to erect a monument in memory of the 23 individuals who were victims of two separate mass crimes.

Stega emphasized the importance of Cetinje, as a historical and symbolic center of Montenegro, taking responsibility to honor the memory of its citizens. A spokesperson stated, “We believe it is crucial for Cetinje to commemorate the suffering of its people in a dignified manner. The construction of a monument represents a minimum of social responsibility towards the victims, their families, and the community as a whole.”
