Milatović Emphasizes Budva’s Role in Montenegro’s Growth

President Jakov Milatović highlighted Budva’s critical role as a catalyst for tourism and economic development in Montenegro during a recent celebration for the municipality’s day. He reflected on the city’s rich history, marked by periods of destruction and renewal, which have forged a strong connection between its residents and their homeland.

Milatović praised the resilience of Budva, recalling how the First Boka Brigade liberated the city from fascist occupiers on November 22, 1944, allowing it to flourish as a free city. In his address to local leaders and citizens, he emphasized that the freedom gained then now empowers the people of Budva to shape their city’s future responsibly.

Today, Budva stands out as a popular destination for tourists from the region, Europe, and beyond, thanks to its stunning natural beauty and diverse offerings. Milatović pointed out that while Budva drives Montenegro’s tourism and economic growth, the sea surrounding it should be cherished as a heritage and a reflection of the local identity.

He noted that Montenegro can no longer afford to have politics focus solely on itself rather than on development and citizen welfare. “We want to become the next member of the European Union, and to achieve that, we must act as Europe does: by working hard, adapting, and respecting the rules,” he stated.

The president stressed the importance of sustainable development, responsible investment, and effective municipal management. He believes that careful spatial planning is essential for ensuring Budva’s success as a modern European destination. He envisions the city as a gem of the Mediterranean, deserving of its recognition.
