Milatović Highlights Budva’s Role in Montenegro’s Growth
Jakov Milatović, the President of Montenegro, emphasized the pivotal role of Budva in the country’s tourism and economic development during a recent address commemorating the municipality’s special day. He highlighted the city’s historical significance and the enduring connection its residents have with their homeland, noting that these values were embodied by the fighters of the First Bokelian Brigade who liberated Budva from fascist occupiers on November 22, 1944.
During his speech, Milatović expressed gratitude to the leadership, assembly, and citizens of Budva, recognizing their contributions to the community’s growth and resilience. He stated that the freedom achieved decades ago belongs to the people of Budva, who must now guide their city’s development with care and responsibility.
Budva has evolved into a prominent destination, attracting tourists from the region, Europe, and beyond, thanks to its natural beauty, diverse tourism offerings, and the hospitality of its residents. Milatović asserted that while Budva is currently a driver of Montenegro’s tourism and economic progress, the sea surrounding the city must be viewed not merely as a resource but as a legacy and expression of the identity of its inhabitants.
As he discussed the future, Milatović underlined that Montenegro cannot afford to let politics become self-serving; instead, the focus must shift towards development and the welfare of its citizens. He expressed a strong desire for Montenegro to become the next member of the European Union, urging the nation to adopt a European mindset. He called for hard work, transformation, and adherence to established rules, all essential elements for sustainable development.
The President outlined key principles such as responsible investment, communal governance, and careful spatial planning as vital to ensure success. He believes that these principles will pave the way for Budva to emerge as a modern and developed European destination, rightfully earning its title as the “pearl of the Mediterranean.”
In closing, Milatović extended his best wishes to the citizens of Budva on their municipal day, reiterating his commitment to supporting their aspirations for a brighter future.
