The Ukrainian military has reported regaining control of Mirnograd after intense fighting, despite a significant Russian offensive that resulted in the deaths of six people and injuries to at least 36 others in Kyiv. In addition, two more casualties were confirmed in Chernomorsk, underscoring the ongoing violence in the region.

According to the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Russian strikes targeted multiple locations, including a naval base in Novorossiysk, a refinery in the Saratov region, and a fuel storage facility in the Engels area. Media reports indicate that operations at the refinery in Saratov have been suspended following these attacks.

In a further escalation, the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine confirmed that its operatives successfully conducted a sabotage operation on the Trans-Siberian Railway, halting freight traffic. The situation remains dire in Pokrovsk and Mirnograd, with reports indicating that Russian forces had briefly raised their flag over the Mirnograd coal mine. However, Ukrainian defense units swiftly destroyed the flag and reestablished control over the area.

Political Developments and International Reactions

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Moscow is prepared to host a second Russia-U.S. summit in Budapest, contingent upon a well-developed agenda based on the outcomes of a prior meeting in Alaska. This statement reflects ongoing diplomatic efforts amid heightened tensions.

Meanwhile, Kaja Kallas, the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union, revealed that the EU is preparing a 20th package of sanctions against Russia, focusing on measures to counter hybrid threats. Viktor Orban, the Prime Minister of Hungary, stated his government would sue the EU over its decision to reject Russian gas imports, arguing that the issue pertains more to trade regulations than sanctions.

The ongoing conflict and its ramifications continue to shape political discussions both within Ukraine and on the international stage. As circumstances evolve, the international community remains watchful of developments, particularly in light of the humanitarian impact of the conflict on the Ukrainian population.
