Epstein Claims $10K Bet with Trump Over Marla Maples’ Pregnancy
Newly released emails reveal that Jeffrey Epstein claimed he lost a $10,000 bet to then-President Donald Trump when Marla Maples, Trump’s ex-wife, became pregnant. The emails were among a large trove of Epstein-related documents made public by the House Oversight Committee on March 15, 2024, which includes various references to Trump.
During a conversation with author Deepak Chopra in July 2016, Epstein recounted this unusual wager. Chopra had reached out to Epstein to arrange a video call, and in his response, Epstein mentioned the bet, stating, “When she told Donald she was pregnant… lost a 10k dollar bet with him, and sent him a truck of baby food in payment.” He also noted that he had not spoken to Maples for years.
Marla Maples, a Georgia-born actress and singer, gave birth to Trump’s daughter, Tiffany Trump, in October 1993, shortly after Trump divorced his first wife, Ivana Trump. The couple married a few months later at the Plaza Hotel in New York City, a ceremony attended by Epstein, as revealed through archival footage. Maples and Trump divorced in 1999.
Chopra and Maples appear to have a prior connection, having shared a stage at a Sages & Sciences Symposium in 2010. They also interacted on social media, with Maples referring to Chopra as a friend in a post from 2016. The Independent has reached out to both for comments regarding the email exchange.
In response to inquiries about the released emails, White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson stated, “These emails prove literally nothing.” The documents also include Epstein’s claims that Trump “spent hours at my house” with a victim of sex trafficking, identified by the White House as Virginia Giuffre, who passed away earlier this year.
The release of these emails has intensified scrutiny on Trump’s past associations with Epstein. Trump acknowledged he knew Epstein as a “terrific guy” in 2002, a statement that has resurfaced with renewed interest. In 2017, Epstein referred to Trump as his “closest friend.” Furthermore, reports indicate that Trump traveled on Epstein’s planes at least seven times during the 1990s.
In 2003, Trump allegedly wrote a birthday letter to Epstein, stating, “May every day be another wonderful secret.” However, Trump has denied authorship of the letter, dismissing it as a “fake thing.” In 2019, Trump claimed he had distanced himself from Epstein “a long time ago.”
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed the recent email revelations, asserting that Trump expelled Epstein from Mar-a-Lago “decades ago” due to inappropriate behavior. Yet, Epstein’s emails contradict this narrative. He stated in a 2019 communication that he was “never a member” of Mar-a-Lago.
In light of these developments, Leavitt emphasized, “These emails prove absolutely nothing other than the fact that President Trump did nothing wrong.” The release of Epstein’s documents coincided with a House discharge petition that successfully secured a chamber-wide vote to release all government files related to Epstein, indicating that this investigation is far from over.
