Montenegro Announces Plans for Embassy in Saudi Arabia by 2026
Montenegro will appoint a chargé d’affaires to its embassy in Riyadh by early 2026, as communicated by Prime Minister Milojko Spajić in a letter to Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, Muhammad bin Salman. This decision comes following Spajić’s recent official visit to Saudi Arabia, where he engaged in productive discussions with the crown prince.
During his visit, Prime Minister Spajić and Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman explored opportunities for strengthening cooperation between Montenegro and Saudi Arabia. The two nations share a long-standing friendship and mutual respect, which serves as a foundation for their diplomatic relations. The opening of the Montenegrin embassy in Riyadh was also announced during this visit.
The trip provided an excellent opportunity for Montenegro to showcase its potential to the Saudi business community and investors. Spajić held discussions with leaders of key companies operating in Saudi Arabia’s dynamic and growing market, aiming to attract investment and foster economic ties.
In his letter to the crown prince regarding the embassy’s opening, Prime Minister Spajić expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality he received and shared his impressions of Saudi Arabia’s comprehensive development and transformation. He highlighted that the vision for development, innovation, and sustainability led by the Saudi leadership serves as an inspiration for many countries.
In the correspondence, Spajić conveyed his enthusiasm about enhancing relations with Saudi Arabia and informed the crown prince of the Montenegrin government’s intention to make a formal decision regarding the opening of its resident embassy in Riyadh as soon as possible. He noted that the appointment of a chargé d’affaires is expected to commence operations in early 2026.
The establishment of the embassy in Riyadh will further enhance institutional cooperation and bolster Montenegro’s presence in the region’s market, thereby facilitating stronger collaboration with the Middle East. This step is viewed as a significant move in Montenegro’s diplomatic efforts and economic ambitions within the region.
