A woman has suffered severe burns after being set on fire by her neighbour during a confrontation over an e-scooter in Victoria, Australia. The incident, described as shocking and heartless, involved Jordan Spencer, 34, who was sentenced to 13 years in prison after pleading guilty to intentionally causing serious injury. The court ruled that Spencer will not be eligible for parole for the first nine years of her sentence.

The attack occurred in a moment of rage following a petty dispute. According to the court, Paris Carpio, 20, had arrived at her home intoxicated after Spencer’s boyfriend took her e-scooter. The altercation escalated when Carpio, upset and volatile, attempted to retrieve her property. She was reported to have shouted and banged on the front door before leaving, only to return after seeing the boyfriend riding her scooter.

Instead of contacting law enforcement, Spencer invited Carpio inside her home, saying, “Come in. The door’s open, come through the door, and I’ll give you what you deserve.” This statement reportedly intimidated Carpio, prompting her to retreat to the front yard.

In a disturbing turn of events, Spencer then threw a bowl of petrol over Carpio and ignited it, resulting in Carpio being engulfed in flames. The court heard that she was on fire for approximately 64 seconds before bystanders intervened, with one individual using a garden hose to extinguish the flames.

During the sentencing, Justice Tinney rejected Spencer’s defense that she acted out of fear. He emphasized that her actions were driven by anger, stating, “You had armed yourself with the bowl of petrol and the jet lighter in preparation for attacking Ms. Carpio.” Justice Tinney further detailed the horrific nature of the attack, comparing Carpio to “a melting candle” as her skin began to peel away from her body.

Carpio’s family has since set up a GoFundMe page to assist with her recovery from the traumatic injuries she sustained. The case has drawn significant media attention, highlighting the dangers of domestic disputes escalating into violence. As the community reacts to this tragic event, the focus remains on Carpio’s recovery and the implications of such violent actions in everyday life.
