Two British Brothers Tragically Drown at Popular Spanish Beach

Two British brothers, aged 11 and 13, drowned at Llarga Beach in Salou, Tarragona, on the evening of August 15, 2023. The incident occurred while the children were swimming in the sea alongside their father, who was subsequently rescued unharmed. Emergency services were alerted at 20:47, leading to a significant response from local authorities.

The father entered the water with his sons but was able to return to shore. Tragically, despite rescue efforts by the Medical Emergency System, both boys lost their lives. Paramedics and a team of psychologists arrived on the scene to provide support to the family during this devastating event.

According to the Civil Protection of Catalonia, this tragedy marks the 15th and 16th fatalities on Catalan beaches since the summer season began on June 15. The number of drownings has already surpassed last summer’s total for the same period by five casualties.

A statement from the Civil Protection emphasized the critical need for safety precautions when swimming in beaches, pools, and other bodies of water. They urged beachgoers to report any individuals in distress to lifeguards or to call emergency services immediately.
