Three Nights of A435 Road Closures for Cycleway Resurfacing

Road closures will affect the A435 in Gloucestershire for three nights starting from the evening of October 27. The closures are part of a broader £48 million cycleway initiative aimed at enhancing cycling and walking infrastructure in the region. From 20:00 until 06:00 each night through October 30, the A435 Evesham Road will be closed to southbound traffic between the Hyde Lane/Southam Lane junction and the Cheltenham Racecourse Roundabout.

This closure is necessary for resurfacing work, and diversions will be in effect to guide motorists around the affected area. A spokesperson for Gloucestershire Highways confirmed, “This work is in preparation for the northbound lane reopening on November 1.” The northbound carriageway has been closed since September 22, and both lanes are scheduled to reopen at 06:00 on November 1.

In addition to the current closures, another complete closure of the Hyde Lane/Southam Lane junction will occur from 20:00 on November 7 until 06:00 on November 10. This closure will affect all directions but will still allow access to Webbs Garden Centre and nearby properties via the Cheltenham Racecourse Roundabout.

Gloucestershire Highways also indicated that there could be contingency closures from November 10 to 13, which may occur overnight from 20:00 to 06:00, if necessary. This ongoing project, which connects Cheltenham to Bishop’s Cleeve, is being executed in phases and commenced last year. Completion of the cycleway is anticipated by the end of January 2026.

According to Gloucestershire County Council, this project is set to deliver significant improvements for cyclists and pedestrians, enhancing safety and accessibility throughout the area.
