The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, has expressed her appreciation for community leaders invited to her upcoming Christmas carol service, highlighting their significant contributions to society. In a heartfelt letter to her guests, she emphasized the importance of community during the festive season, stating that it serves as a reminder of how interconnected our lives truly are.

The annual Together At Christmas service will take place on December 15, 2023, at Westminster Abbey. Now in its fifth year, the service aims to unite members of the royal family with approximately 1,600 guests to celebrate love and community spirit. This event will honor individuals from across the UK who have dedicated their time to help others, whether through volunteering or leading initiatives that foster community engagement.

In her letter, which has been shared with attendees, Kate wrote, “This carol service offers a moment of collective togetherness, a chance to celebrate the spirit of community and service, and to honour the visible and invisible bonds that unite us all.” She praised the selfless acts of those who contribute to their communities, noting that their compassion often goes unnoticed but has a profound impact.

Among the distinguished guests is Madison Reed, a young girl who raised over £1,360 for the Archie Foundation through a series of Highland dances performed across Scotland. Her efforts directly support sick children and their families receiving medical care in north-east Scotland. Another notable attendee is Ann Davies, an 80-year-old volunteer who has dedicated nearly a decade to cooking for the Moses Project, a charity that assists men dealing with addiction. Ann also volunteers at a police station in Middlesbrough, providing support to vulnerable individuals.

Kate’s letter reflects on the deeper meaning of the Christmas season, stating, “Christmas is a time that reminds us how deeply our lives are woven together. Just as the roots of trees share strength beneath the soil, unseen but vital, so too do we.” She emphasizes the importance of connection and belonging, urging everyone to remember that their actions, no matter how small, can significantly impact others.

The service will feature performances from artists including Katie Melua, Fisherman’s Friends, and Griff. Additionally, the event will include readings focused on themes of love and compassion delivered by notable figures such as Kate Winslet, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and comedian Babatunde Aleshe. The readings will be accompanied by pianist Paul Gladstone Reid.

In a broader effort to promote community spirit, 15 carol services will also be held across the UK, including locations such as the Coronation Street Visitor Centre and a community farm in Gwent. Guests at these services will receive the same letter from Kate, reinforcing the message of connection and support during the holiday season.

The Westminster Abbey service will be broadcast on ITV1 and ITVX on Christmas Eve, with a repeat airing scheduled for Christmas Day, making it accessible to a wider audience eager to embrace the holiday spirit.
