Iconic Wedding of Scott and Charlene Crowned Best Neighbours Moment
The beloved Australian soap opera *Neighbours* is approaching its conclusion, and the show’s fans have voted the wedding of Scott Robinson and Charlene Mitchell as its greatest moment. In a poll conducted by RadioTimes.com, a remarkable 49 percent of participants selected the 1987 nuptials as the defining moment on Ramsay Street.
Among the other significant moments that were nominated, viewers cited Harold Bishop’s (Ian Smith) return after being lost at sea, a spiritual encounter with his late wife Madge (Anne Charleston), and the tragic plane crash that claimed his son David. Additional highlights included Bouncer the dog’s dream sequence, Hendrix Greyson’s (Ben Turland) heartfelt proposal to Mackenzie Hargreaves (Georgie Stone), and the infamous Fake Dee storyline. Despite the variety of memorable moments, no other nomination surpassed 11 percent in the poll, solidifying Scott and Charlene’s wedding as an unforgettable highlight.
Scott and Charlene exchanged vows in front of two million viewers in Australia on November 25, 1987. The episode reached an astonishing audience of 20 million in the UK when it aired in 1988. Jason Donovan, who reprised his role in what was thought to be the show’s final episode in 2022, expressed his gratitude, stating, “Thank you to all those who’ve voted Scott and Charlene’s wedding the greatest ever Neighbours moment!” He further remarked on his pride in being part of a talented cast and acknowledged the support of fans over the years, emphasizing, “Without you guys we could never have made television history.”
As *Neighbours* prepares for its last episodes, several fan-favourite characters are returning to bid farewell to Ramsay Street. The show, which has faced cancellation multiple times in its 40-year history, was last axed in 2025 by producers Amazon MGM Media, who opted not to renew beyond its 460-episode commission. Jason Herbison, the executive producer, noted that the team added a significant number of episodes to the show’s legacy, which now totals over 9,000 episodes. He stated, “Neighbours is a special show and it’s been a privilege to make the recent seasons for our loyal viewers around the world.”
The final episodes of *Neighbours* will air in less than two weeks, leaving fans to reflect on the show’s impact and the many memorable moments that have shaped its history. As the series concludes, there is a hopeful tone for potential future developments in the *Neighbours* universe.
For those looking to catch up on the drama and nostalgia, *Neighbours* is currently available for streaming on Prime Video.
