Finnish Air Force F-18 Confirmed for 2026 Royal International Air Tattoo
The Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT), known as the world’s largest military airshow, is set to take place in five months, with excitement building around its latest announcement. The event has confirmed that a Finnish Air Force F-18 will participate in the flying display for the 2026 show. This year’s theme, “Fighter Meet,” will showcase aircraft used in air-to-air combat throughout the last century, alongside contemporary fighter jets from around the world.
In addition to marking the rich history of military aviation, 2026 will be significant as it commemorates the 55th anniversary of RIAT, which first occurred in 1971 at North Weald Airfield in Essex. The event will also celebrate a milestone of 30 years since it was granted royal status. To honor this legacy, a special sub-theme titled “Royal Flight” will feature a collection of aircraft used for VIP transportation.
Peter Reoch, head of air operations, expressed enthusiasm about the inclusion of the Finnish Hornet, stating, “We are delighted to unveil the Finnish Hornet as our first participant for RIAT ’26 – this display is always well flown and is the perfect introduction to our Fighter Meet theme.” He also mentioned ongoing efforts to collaborate with air arms globally to attract a diverse range of aircraft for the show, promising further announcements in the coming weeks.
The popularity of RIAT has surged in recent years, leading to an unprecedented demand for tickets. Over 70,000 tickets have already been sold for this year’s event, with all proceeds benefitting the Royal Air Force Charitable Trust. This charity aims to inspire young people and RAF personnel to achieve their full potential in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), as well as in aviation and space.
Hannah Langford, head of charity development, emphasized the impact of ticket sales, saying, “Every ticket purchased for the Royal International Air Tattoo plays a direct and powerful role in shaping young futures. Thanks to this support, we’re able to fund inspiring STEM experiences and skills development that open doors for young people aged 5 to 25 — especially those who might never otherwise see themselves in air, space, or technology.”
With the RIAT set to deliver an extraordinary aviation experience, attendees can look forward to witnessing some of the finest military aircraft in action while supporting educational initiatives for the next generation. For those interested in attending, tickets are available through the official RIAT website.
