Erling Haaland Praises Pep Guardiola’s Work Ethic at Man City
Erling Haaland has shared insights into Pep Guardiola’s exceptional work ethic at Manchester City, highlighting the manager’s relentless pursuit of success. Guardiola, who is entering his tenth season with the club, has achieved remarkable success, including six Premier League titles, one Champions League, two FA Cups, and four League Cups. Despite these accolades, the 54-year-old remains as driven as ever.
In a recent appearance on the Rest is Football podcast, Haaland expressed admiration for Guardiola’s dedication. The Norwegian forward, who chose to join City over offers from renowned clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich, emphasized that it is Guardiola’s intense work ethic that sets him apart. He stated, “He works harder than everyone. He’s the hardest working in the club. He’s the first one to come, the last one to leave.”
Haaland described Guardiola’s approach to the game as a combination of “dedication” and “motivation,” which he believes has contributed significantly to the team’s achievements. His comments reflect the atmosphere at Manchester City, where the pursuit of excellence is paramount.
As Manchester City looks to regain momentum after a challenging start to the current Premier League season, sitting behind leaders Arsenal, Haaland’s contributions have been crucial. The striker has netted 20 goals and provided three assists in 20 appearances across all competitions this season.
In January 2022, Haaland committed to Manchester City by signing a lucrative nine-year contract that will keep him at the club until 2034. This long-term commitment underscores his belief in the project led by Guardiola, whose future was a topic of speculation during last season. Guardiola quelled such concerns by signing a two-year contract extension in December 2024, ensuring his stay at the club until 2027.
Reflecting on Guardiola’s decision to extend his contract, Haaland expressed confidence in the manager’s commitment to City. “That was something I wanted to be a part of,” he remarked. “I’m calm, I’m focused, and I’m really happy here.”
Haaland’s journey to City has been influenced by his father’s advice, who cautioned him against choosing a club solely based on the manager. Yet, Haaland acknowledged that Guardiola played a significant role in his decision, stating, “Pep was a big reason why I came to City, of course, to work with him.”
As the season progresses, Manchester City is poised to continue its pursuit of titles, driven by the combined efforts of Haaland and Guardiola’s unwavering dedication to the sport. The synergy between the player and manager could prove vital in the club’s quest for further silverware.
