Disney+ Unveils First Look at Rivals Season 2 with David Tennant’s Return
Disney+ has released a first look at the highly anticipated second season of Rivals, which is set to premiere in 2026. Following a dramatic cliffhanger in the first season, fans can expect an intense continuation of the story, particularly for David Tennant‘s character, Lord Tony Baddingham. The season promises to deliver “even more wit, desire, and jaw-dropping twists,” according to the streaming platform.
The first season concluded with Lord Baddingham facing a precarious fate after being attacked by his lover, Cameron Cook, played by Nafessa Williams. In newly released images, Tennant appears more resolute than ever as he steps away from a helicopter, hinting at a vengeful return. Other cast members, including Aidan Turner as Declan O’Hara and Bella Maclean as Taggie O’Hara, are also featured in various scenarios that suggest complex interpersonal dynamics continue to evolve.
The narrative remains set against the picturesque backdrop of the Cotswolds in the 1980s, showcasing the glamorous yet cutthroat world of British television. The synopsis highlights that Baddingham will stop at nothing to maintain Corinium’s dominance in the industry. As the stakes rise, the relationships among the characters are expected to deepen, leading to potential conflicts and power struggles.
New faces will join the ensemble cast, including Hayley Atwell as Helen Gordon, the ex-wife of Turner’s character, and Rupert Everett as Malise Gordon, Helen’s new husband. Additional newcomers such as Maxim Ays, Holly Cattle, and Oliver Dench will also play significant roles in the unfolding drama.
This new season arrives following the passing of Dame Jilly Cooper, the author of the original series, who also served as an executive producer. Cooper praised the adaptation as “absolutely wonderful,” and her legacy continues to influence the show’s direction.
While an official release date for Rivals season 2 has yet to be confirmed, the excitement surrounding the upcoming episodes is palpable. Fans of the show will have to wait a little longer, but the promise of intricate storylines and character developments ensures that the anticipation remains high.
For those who wish to catch up, the first season of Rivals is currently available for streaming on Disney+, with subscription options starting at £5.99 per month or £99.90 for an annual plan.
