British Teen Hospitalized After Pool Incident in Portugal
A 15-year-old British tourist is currently in critical condition after being discovered floating unconscious in a swimming pool at a holiday accommodation in northern Portugal. The incident occurred in the village of Aborim, located within the Barcelos municipality, which has a population of just under 900 residents. Emergency services were alerted just before 17:00 local time on the previous day when the teenager’s family found him unresponsive in the water.
Upon arrival, firefighters and medical personnel quickly stabilized the boy before transporting him to Braga Hospital, where he remains under intensive care. The local police force, GNR, has initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. While volunteers from Barcelos fire department responded to the scene, they have stated they are not authorized to release further details at this time.
This tragic event comes in the wake of several other incidents involving British tourists in Portugal. In a separate case last month, two British men, King Edonmi (29) and Mo Lisau (27), were found deceased in a hotel pool in Albufeira. Preliminary reports from Portuguese authorities indicated that the pool’s design, combined with the men’s inability to swim, likely contributed to their deaths.
In another incident on August 9, a British family tragically lost their lives in a car accident shortly after arriving in Portugal. The victims included Domingos Serrano (55), his wife Maria Serrano (51), and their twin sons, aged 20. Their rental car collided head-on with another vehicle on the IP2 main road as they headed towards Mourao, their parents’ hometown. A Polish-born girlfriend of one of the twins and a 26-year-old mine worker also died in that crash.
As investigations continue into these recent incidents, the community in Barcelos is reminded of the importance of vigilance and safety, especially for tourists. The ongoing situation involving the British teenager underscores the potential dangers associated with leisure activities, especially in unfamiliar environments.
