BAE Systems Secures $500 Million Contract for Paladin Vehicles
BAE Systems has been awarded a significant contract valued at over $500 million to produce additional M109A7 Paladin self-propelled howitzers and M992A3 ammunition carriers for the U.S. Army. This contract, which was finalized in December 2025, aims to bolster the Army’s Armored Brigade Combat Teams by enhancing the accessibility of mobile artillery systems capable of providing indirect fire support in contemporary combat scenarios.
Dan Furber, the program director for Artillery and Combat Support at BAE Systems’ Combat Mission Systems division, emphasized the strategic importance of the M109A7. “The M109A7 Paladin Self-Propelled Howitzer is designed to provide a significant operational advantage on today’s battlefields and into the future,” he stated. He noted that the howitzer’s proven performance underscores its value in operational settings, and expressed pride in supporting the U.S. Army and its allies in leveraging this crucial capability.
The M109A7 features a modern digital architecture along with advanced fire control systems that enhance its lethality, survivability, and responsiveness. BAE Systems highlighted that the vehicle’s adaptable chassis and updated systems are designed to accommodate future upgrades while ensuring mobility and reliability in challenging operational conditions.
Production Facilities and Strategic Impact
Production of the M109A7 and M992A3 units will take place across several BAE Systems facilities located in York, Pennsylvania; Elgin, Oklahoma; and Anniston, Alabama. This localized production is expected to stimulate economic activity in these regions while delivering critical military capabilities to the U.S. Army.
The M109A7 Paladin artillery vehicles are intended to meet the increasing demands for advanced artillery solutions in modern warfare. As military engagements evolve, the need for reliable and effective mobile artillery systems becomes paramount. This contract not only reinforces BAE Systems’ position as a key player in defense manufacturing but also ensures that the U.S. Army is equipped with state-of-the-art technology to maintain operational superiority.
In a world where military preparedness is constantly evolving, the addition of the M109A7 and M992A3 vehicles represents a crucial advancement in the U.S. Army’s artillery capabilities. The integration of modern technologies in these systems is expected to provide a substantial operational edge on the battlefield, aligning with the Army’s commitment to readiness and effectiveness in various combat environments.
