Saundersfoot Triathlon Ignites Energy Before Ironman Wales
The annual Saundersfoot Triathlon launched a vibrant sporting weekend on September 19, 2023, just two days prior to the highly anticipated Ironman Wales. The event attracted both seasoned athletes and newcomers, providing an exhilarating prelude to the main competition in the picturesque village of Saundersfoot.
The triathlon commenced at 17:00 from the main slipway onto Saundersfoot beach, where enthusiastic swimmers took to the waters. Following the swim, competitors embarked on a scenic cycling route that wound through the county’s stunning landscapes, showcasing breathtaking coastal and countryside views. The race concluded with a run through Coppet Hall and into the heart of the village, where the local community gathered to cheer on the participants.
Organisers Activity Wales expressed their gratitude to all involved. They praised the marshals, vendors, sponsors, and, most importantly, the athletes themselves. In a message shared on social media, they stated, “Saundersfoot Triathlon you were amazing! Entries now open for 2026. Will we see you there?”
The local community showed immense support for the event, with Samuel Kurtz, the Senedd Member for South Pembrokeshire and Carmarthen West, congratulating all competitors and the team behind the triathlon. Cllr Chris Williams, the county councillor for Saundersfoot’s south ward, highlighted the event’s significance in the local sports calendar. He noted that the triathlon has evolved into a beloved fixture, offering a fantastic introduction to the sport for newcomers while providing a challenging experience for more experienced participants.
Williams emphasized that the triathlon is not just about the competition but also about the vibrant atmosphere it creates. “From morning to night, the village is alive with energy,” he remarked. Locals and visitors alike filled the streets, cheering on the athletes, while independent hospitality venues contributed to the festive ambiance with live music, food, and drink.
The Saundersfoot Triathlon is celebrated not only for its athletic challenge but also for fostering a strong sense of community spirit. As the event continues to grow in popularity, it remains a highlight of the local calendar, bringing together athletes and spectators in a shared celebration of sport and camaraderie.
