Samsung Eyes Return of S Pen for Future Galaxy Fold Devices
Samsung’s recent launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 in July 2025 garnered positive attention for its sleek design and enhanced camera capabilities. However, the decision to omit support for the S Pen, a feature that many users valued in the previous model, left some fans disappointed. This change means that the latest flagship foldable device lacks the ability to allow users to doodle or take notes using the stylus, which was a significant draw for the Galaxy Z Fold 6.
Rumors suggest that Samsung may be looking to reintroduce S Pen compatibility in future foldable devices. While it’s unlikely that the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8, expected in 2026, will include this feature, insights from credible sources indicate that a new foldable model distinct from the current Z Fold and Z Flip series could emerge with S Pen support.
One of the earliest mentions of this potential return came from Kang Min-seok, a senior official at Samsung’s MX business division. In an interview with the Korean publication ET News, he indicated that the company might reconsider adding stylus support if consumer demand warrants it. This aligns with reports from 2024 regarding Samsung’s development of a new stylus designed to function on screens that do not feature a digitizer.
The conversation surrounding the return of S Pen support gained momentum in December 2025, with a series of reports hinting at a new foldable device being developed by Samsung. Most of these reports suggest that the next generation of foldables could integrate this popular accessory. A tipster on the South Korean social platform Naver, known for providing reliable leaks, claimed that Samsung is working on a Galaxy Z Foldable phone with a new design language. It is suggested that this device would feature a thicker profile to accommodate the S Pen within its body.
This description echoes a December 2025 report from ET News, which detailed a “wider” version of Samsung’s foldable device. The publication noted that this new model aims to counter the anticipated release of Apple’s own foldable phone, rumored to launch in 2026 as a replacement for the iPhone 18. Reports indicate that Samsung plans for a 4:3 aspect ratio with this upcoming device, a significant shift from the 9:21 vertical and 18:20 aspect ratios of the unfolded display of the Galaxy Z Fold 7. This new aspect ratio aims to provide users with a more book-like experience when using the device.
The discussions surrounding this potential foldable smartphone with S Pen support are generating considerable excitement, though much of the information currently circulating comes from sources that are less established. Should Samsung’s plans materialize, the new device would represent a significant upgrade for users of the Galaxy Z Fold 6, which last supported the S Pen.
As Samsung continues to innovate in the foldable smartphone market, the anticipation builds for what the future holds, particularly regarding the integration of features that resonate with consumer preferences.
