A section of Parliament Street in Ramsey has been closed following the discovery of a suspected gas leak. The Isle of Man Energy has received emergency authorization to shut down the upper portion of the road, specifically between Parliament Square and West Street, while engineers excavate the area to identify the source of the leak.

The Department of Infrastructure (DoI) has emphasized that this closure is essential to ensure the safety of both workers and the public while the investigation is underway. A spokesperson for the DoI stated, “The length of time that this closure is in place will depend upon how quickly the location of the leak is identified.”

While the affected section of Parliament Street is closed, access to the rest of the high street remains available through several alternative routes. Drivers can reach Parliament Street from West Street, which connects off West Quay near the Commissioners’ car park. Additional access points include Christian Street, accessible via West Quay or Albert Road, and Tower Street through Albert Road.

Local residents and businesses are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any unusual smells or sounds as the investigation continues. The Isle of Man Energy team is working diligently to resolve the issue and restore normal traffic flow as soon as possible. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.

Safety remains the top priority as crews work to address the leak and minimize disruption in the area.
