Man Arrested for Threatening Wife With Knife in Montenegro

A man from Bijelo Polje, identified as E.K., has been arrested following allegations of domestic violence against his wife. The incident occurred on January 11, 2026, when E.K. reportedly threatened his wife with a knife during a confrontation at their home.

According to the criminal complaint submitted by the Police Directorate of Bijelo Polje to the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office, the suspect attempted to coerce his wife into accompanying him during a drive. During this time, he issued several threats, demanding that she choose between her life and that of her friend.

As the situation escalated, E.K. allegedly told his wife that she could either allow him to kill her or jump into the Lim River. Reports indicate that the confrontation reached a critical point when E.K. stopped the vehicle on a bridge in Strojtanica and insisted that his wife contact their children to say goodbye.

Realizing the severity of the situation, the victim exited the vehicle and managed to call the police for assistance. Law enforcement quickly responded, and E.K. was detained shortly thereafter.

Following a hearing, the state prosecutor ordered that E.K. be held for up to 72 hours as the investigation continues. This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding domestic violence in the region and the urgent need for protective measures for victims.
