Iconic Band “Smak” Celebrated in New Monograph Launch Event

The launch of a new monograph detailing the journey of the legendary band Smak took place on the evening of March 15, 2024, at the Narodna biblioteka “Radosav Ljumović” in Podgorica. Authored by Ksenija Đerković, the book encompasses the band’s history and creative output from its inception in 1971 to the present day, 2023.

During the event, Đerković, who is not only a journalist and archivist but also the daughter of Smak’s drummer, Slobodan Stojanović Kepa, spoke passionately about the band’s influence on the regional rock scene. Joining her was Jovan Pantić, the lead vocalist of Smak plus, who shared insights into the band’s enduring legacy.

The evening’s atmosphere was enriched by a performance from eight-year-old Vuk Peruničić, who captivated the audience alongside Pantić with a rendition of the classic song “Crna damo.” Peruničić’s joyful presence and remarkable confidence belied his young age, showcasing a genuine passion for the music of Smak. His performance was met with enthusiastic applause, highlighting the audience’s appreciation for both the young talent and the band’s historical significance.

The monograph spans nearly 600 pages and provides a comprehensive overview of Smak’s musical journey through exclusive interviews, articles from former Yugoslav publications such as Đuboks, Eureka, Politika ekspres, and TV Novosti. It also includes rich archival materials, such as photographs, anecdotes, letters from fans, biographies of band members, and lyrics to their most renowned songs.

This publication serves as a vital contribution to preserving the musical and cultural heritage of the region, offering readers an in-depth look at the evolution and lasting impact of one of the most influential bands in the regional rock scene. As the evening concluded, the audience left with a renewed sense of appreciation for Smak’s iconic status and the enduring love for their music that resonates to this day.
