Five years have passed since Carol Mighall, a mother of five, disappeared in Birkenhead, leaving her family in anguish and searching for answers. Carol, 56, was last seen on January 4, 2021, at a convenience store on the corner of Rodney Street and Argyle Street South. Surveillance footage captured her purchasing a litre of vodka and 20 cigarettes before she headed towards Birkenhead Central train station. At the time, she was dressed in a khaki parka-style coat with grey fur trim, blue jeans, and black and white speckled trainers.

Her daughter, Kayleigh Doyle, has made a heartfelt plea for her mother to return, expressing her ongoing hope and the deep sense of loss felt by the family. In a recent message, Kayleigh stated, “Mum, I still look when I’m out and about and a lot of people still talk about you. I really miss you and would love nothing more than you walk back into our life. Miss you, mum. Time to come home.”

The impact of Carol’s disappearance has been profound. Kayleigh described their close relationship, stating, “We were like each other’s shadows. We were always together and she was always with the kids. The kids miss her and all want her to come home.” Carol’s absence has left a void, particularly for her five children and nine grandchildren, who have searched tirelessly since that fateful day.

Kayleigh further emphasized the emotional toll on her children, saying, “The look on my kids’ faces every time they see a picture of her – it’s the look of heartbreak. We miss her every day.” She urged anyone who may have information about Carol’s whereabouts to reach out, saying, “If she doesn’t want to come home, message one of us; it doesn’t have to be a family member or a friend, or it could be the police, so we’ve got a bit of peace of mind that she’s out there and she’s fine.”

Despite extensive efforts by Merseyside Police to locate Carol, there have been no confirmed sightings since her disappearance. The police continue to receive numerous reports from the public but have yet to make progress in the case. They describe Carol as white, 5 feet 4 inches tall, with a slim build and a pale complexion. She has brown shoulder-length hair, typically worn in a ponytail, and was last seen carrying a black handbag with a shoulder strap.

Carol is known to frequent areas in Liverpool city centre and Birkenhead, and may also have connections to Chester. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact them via direct message on social media or by calling 101, referencing the case number 21000039543.

As the family marks this painful milestone, they hold onto hope for Carol’s return. Kayleigh’s message resonates deeply: “No one is angry with her. No one is going to shout at her. We just want her to come home.”
