Montenegro’s cadet volleyball teams faced disappointing outcomes in their respective semifinals at the traditional Winter Nations Cup held in Pordenone, Italy. Both the men’s and women’s teams will now compete for third place after suffering defeats in crucial matches.

The women’s team encountered a formidable opponent in Japan, losing decisively with a score of 3:0 (25:18, 25:20, 25:17). They will play against the Czech Republic on Sunday at 09:00, following the latter’s loss to Germany in the other semifinal by 3:1. Montenegro’s female players had previously secured their spot in the semifinals by finishing second in their group, achieving victories against Egypt (3:2) and Croatia (3:1), while suffering a setback against Germany (3:0).

In contrast, the men’s team had a promising start, leading 2:0 in their semifinal match against the Czech Republic. However, they ultimately succumbed to a dramatic comeback, losing the match 3:2 (14:25, 25:27, 25:12, 25:16, 15:11). The men’s team will also compete for third place on Sunday, scheduled for 11:00, where they will face Croatia, who lost to Italy in their semifinal by 3:0.

Both teams demonstrated resilience throughout the tournament. The men’s cadet team concluded the group stage as runners-up, with a notable win against Egypt (3:1) and narrow defeats to Germany (3:2) and Croatia (3:2).

The tournament serves as a preparatory event for the cadet teams ahead of the second round of qualifications for the European Championship, set to take place at the end of March. The women’s team will travel to Maribor, where they will compete against Slovenia, Belgium, and Slovakia. Meanwhile, the men’s team will host matches in Podgorica against France, Croatia, and Israel.

As both teams gear up for their final matches, they will aim to conclude the tournament on a positive note, showcasing their growth and potential on the international stage.
