At the Debeli Brijeg border crossing, authorities intercepted an attempt to smuggle a significant sum of unreported cash into Montenegro. On a recent inspection, officers from the Regional Centre for Border Police South, in collaboration with the Customs Administration and Frontex, discovered a total of £58,935 and 60 Scottish pounds concealed in a vehicle.

The vehicle, a Mercedes E-Class registered in the United Kingdom, was driven by a 34-year-old Greek national, identified only by the initials I.M. During a second line inspection, police found the money hidden under floor mats, in seat pockets, and within a bag and clothing items.

Following the discovery, the Special Police Department was notified, and the funds were temporarily seized for further verification. Authorities subsequently issued a ban on I.M.’s entry into Montenegro, detailing the seriousness of the situation in their official statement.

This incident highlights ongoing efforts by border agents to curb illegal financial activities at Montenegro’s borders. The collaboration with international agencies like Frontex underscores the importance of vigilance in maintaining border security.
