Footage captured on a doorbell camera has revealed an Amazon delivery driver taking a family’s pet cat, prompting outrage from the owners. The incident occurred on January 18, 2024, in Elland, West Yorkshire, when Carl Crowther, 53, and his partner, Sarah, 52, discovered that their cat, Nora, had gone missing.

Carl Crowther had been eagerly awaiting the delivery of a package from Zara for his daughter. While he initially did not worry about Nora, an outdoor cat, it became concerning when she did not return home that evening. The couple’s suspicions grew when they checked their doorbell footage the following morning, revealing the delivery driver taking Nora and leaving with her after delivering the package.

“It’s absolutely disgusting,” said Carl, a maintenance worker. “He was there for over six minutes. He comes right up to the door, picks up the cat, turns around, and walks off.”

The couple has not seen Nora since the incident, which has left them deeply troubled. Carl reported the matter to the police shortly after discovering the footage. He contacted West Yorkshire Police at approximately 14:30 on January 19, 2024, leading to the recording of a theft crime.

Carl expressed frustration over Amazon’s response, stating, “I’ve been emailing them, and their response was disgusting, asking what monetary value we’d put on the cat. How can you put a value on somebody’s pet?”

He noted that he was away on a work call at 13:30 on the day of the delivery, which left Nora unsupervised. “We have a cat flap she can get back through. No sign of her in the morning, so I checked the doorbell camera out of curiosity,” he explained. After seeing the driver take his cat, Carl immediately reached out to both the police and Amazon.

The situation is particularly concerning for Carl and Sarah as Nora is on medication for a heart murmur, raising fears for her health after being separated from her owners.

Amazon has confirmed that they are investigating the incident and have been in contact with the police. A spokesperson for the company stated they take such matters seriously and aim to resolve the issue swiftly.

West Yorkshire Police confirmed that enquiries are ongoing. “Police received a report of a cat being stolen from outside a property on Park Avenue, Elland, at around 14:30 on January 19. A crime of theft has been recorded,” a police spokesperson said.

As the investigation unfolds, Carl and Sarah continue to hope for Nora’s safe return. They are now left to grapple with the emotional impact of the incident, illustrating the bond that pet owners share with their animals.
