Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank expressed admiration for Sean Dyche, stating that no other coach understands him better. Frank’s remarks come as Spurs prepare to face Dyche’s Nottingham Forest on October 1, 2023, aiming for their third consecutive win. Following victories that alleviated some pressure on Frank, he reflected on the bond formed through shared experiences in football.

Frank highlighted the influence Dyche has had on his coaching approach, particularly during his tenure at Brentford. Dyche previously managed Burnley for a decade, leading the team to notable successes, including two promotions to the Premier League and the club’s first European qualification since 1967. His time at Burnley ended in April 2022, after which he spent two years away from management before taking over at Nottingham Forest.

In a press conference on Friday, Frank elaborated on his relationship with Dyche, saying, “Of course, some you meet in different circumstances for whatever reason, when you come together as coaches, talk about life and football. I think it is fair to say we are the only ones that really understand each other. We are in the same situation together, dealing with the same problems and all sorts of things.”

The upcoming match against Nottingham Forest is highly anticipated, with both teams looking to build momentum. Frank acknowledged the competitive nature of their relationship, stating, “Of course, when we play against each other it is very competitive.”

In addition to discussing Dyche, Frank addressed the status of striker Dominic Solanke, who has been sidelined with an ankle injury. Solanke recently posted an image on social media that included an hourglass emoji, suggesting a return may be imminent. Frank tempered expectations, saying, “I guess it is good news when he posts that. With Dom, because it is an injury that he picked up in July, it’s dragged on for a while.”

While acknowledging the media’s interest in Solanke’s recovery, Frank expressed a desire to shift focus to the upcoming match against Forest. “I’ll have much better news when I can say ‘now he’s training fully with the team, he’s available soon.’ I know you guys need to ask the question, of course,” he added.

As Tottenham prepares for this crucial fixture, both managers will look to leverage their understanding of each other to secure a vital three points in the Premier League.
