Technical Failure Halts Bar–Bijelo Polje Train in Sozina Tunnel

A technical malfunction on train number 6102 disrupted service on the Bar–Bijelo Polje route today, March 15, 2024. The incident occurred in the Sozina Tunnel shortly after the train departed from Bar at 15:30. According to a statement from the Željeznički prevoz Crne Gore (ŽPCG), the issue was reported at 16:45, leading to a temporary halt in operations.

ŽPCG confirmed that all protocols regarding railway safety were followed during the incident. Passengers were informed of the situation, and the conductor had to exit the train to report the malfunction, as per standard procedure. The train’s engineer promptly attempted to resolve the issue while the conductor notified the relevant authorities.

Due to technical limitations within the tunnel, one of the two conductors needed to leave the train to reach a location with signal access and communicate with the control center. Emergency assistance was dispatched immediately, with a replacement locomotive sent to assist. The backup locomotive successfully retrieved the train, bringing it to Sutomore station by 17:42, at which point normal service resumed.

The journey resumed towards Bijelo Polje at 18:11 with a functioning locomotive. Although ŽPCG currently operates older train models, officials emphasized that the malfunction was minor and did not compromise passenger safety. All safety protocols were strictly adhered to, ensuring that passenger security remained a top priority throughout the incident.

In light of this situation, ŽPCG has announced plans to modernize its fleet starting next year, aimed at enhancing both safety and reliability. The organization thanked passengers for their understanding and patience during this disruption, reiterating its commitment to maintaining high safety standards in railway operations.
