Ricky Hatton Leaves £40 Million Legacy to Children After Death
Former boxing champion Ricky Hatton has left a substantial legacy of £40 million to his three children, a fortune built through a successful property empire established during his boxing career. Hatton’s investments, made with the earnings from his time in the ring, have secured a financial future for his family following his tragic passing.
Hatton was discovered deceased at his home in Hyde, Greater Manchester, on September 14, 2023, by his manager and close friend Paul Speak. A full inquest into his death is scheduled for March 20, 2024. His children, Campbell (24), Millie (13), and Fearne (12), have been left with a considerable inheritance, derived largely from sound investments in real estate.
Building a Legacy Through Investment
According to reports from The Sun, Hatton utilized his fight earnings to finance a diverse array of property ventures, including freehold and leasehold flats, developments, and houses in his hometown as well as in areas like Leicestershire, London, and Kent. This strategic approach to his wealth highlights Hatton’s commitment to creating a lasting financial legacy for his children.
His untimely death has led to an outpouring of grief across the nation. Thousands of fans lined the streets of Manchester as they paid their respects during his funeral. A service held at Manchester Cathedral attracted notable figures from the world of sports, including fellow boxers Tyson Fury, Tony Bellew, and Frank Bruno, as well as celebrities like former England cricket captain Andrew Flintoff and ex-Manchester United star Wayne Rooney. Hatton’s children delivered heartfelt eulogies, reflecting on their father’s impact.
A Community’s Tribute
During an interview on Good Morning Britain, Campbell Hatton shared insights into the emotional experience of their loss. He remarked, “It’s been a bit of a whirlwind the last few weeks. Obviously, we’ve been leading up to the funeral, which was unbelievable to see the amount of love everyone had for my dad. There were thousands in the streets, and there was a lot of comfort to take from that.”
He further elaborated on his father’s legacy, stating, “He always said he was more proud of his fanbase than all the belts and his titles.” The tribute procession to the Etihad Stadium, home of Manchester City, underscored the connection Hatton had with the community, showcasing the deep affection fans held for him.
As the boxing world and his family navigate this profound loss, Hatton’s financial foresight ensures that his children will continue to benefit from the wealth he cultivated throughout his storied career. The legacy he leaves behind is not only measured in monetary terms but also in the love and admiration he garnered from fans and fellow athletes alike.
