Parker Aims for Usyk and Itauma Fights After Wardley Clash

Joseph Parker views his upcoming match against Fabio Wardley on October 25 as a crucial step toward securing title fights against heavyweight champions Oleksandr Usyk and rising star Moses Itauma. The winner of this bout will become the mandatory challenger for the WBO heavyweight title, currently held by Usyk, who is regarded as the undisputed champion in the division. Should Usyk opt not to face the victor of this clash, that individual would be upgraded to full champion status, with Itauma already positioned as the No. 1 challenger in the WBO rankings.
Parker expressed his focus on the upcoming fight during an interview with Sky Sports News, stating, “There are a lot of options out there after this fight. But if I don’t get past Fabio Wardley, there’s no point talking about any Moses Itauma, any Usyk, anything else.” He emphasized that his attention remains solely on Wardley, acknowledging the respect he has for his opponent’s standing as the No. 1 contender with the WBA.
Wardley’s previous performance showcased his potential as a formidable opponent. In his last fight against Justis Huni, despite trailing on the scorecards, he delivered a decisive knockout in the tenth round. Parker noted, “He was able to land just a clean, nice right hand on Justis Huni. You can’t even switch off for a second, otherwise you’re going to get caught, and it’s game over.” This acknowledgment of Wardley’s capabilities underlines the seriousness with which Parker is approaching this matchup.
Despite Wardley’s skills, Parker is confident in his own abilities and experience. “I think any heavyweight can put someone else’s light out,” he remarked. “But going into this fight, I do believe there’s levels in this sport. I’ve been in this game for a long time and am grateful to still operate at the highest level.” He believes his agility, speed, and strategic shot selection will be key to his success in the ring.
As the fight approaches, anticipation builds around the potential implications for the heavyweight landscape. A victory for Parker could pave the way for high-stakes encounters with both Usyk and Itauma, making the outcome of the Wardley bout critical not only for Parker’s career but also for the future of heavyweight boxing. “I feel like it’s going to be a night filled with power, speed, drama,” Parker added, highlighting the excitement expected from the matchup.
The clash between Parker and Wardley promises to be a significant moment in the heavyweight division, with implications that extend far beyond the ring. Fans and analysts alike are eager to see how the fight unfolds and what it will mean for the title landscape moving forward.
