In a significant political development on December 4, 2025, the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, urged parliament member Milan Knezović to resign from the government following what Milatović described as inappropriate attacks on Prime Minister Spajić during a recent parliamentary session. Milatović criticized Knezović for continuing a pattern of manipulation in politics rather than engaging in constructive dialogue.

Milatović expressed his concerns through a series of pointed questions directed at Knezović, aiming to clarify the accountability surrounding recent government decisions regarding environmental impact assessments. He outlined four critical questions and provided answers to each, emphasizing the government’s role in these decisions.

1. Who authorized the environmental impact assessment for the wastewater treatment plant in Botun? The answer is unequivocally: the Government.

2. Who approved the construction works? Again, the answer is: the Government.

3. Is Knezović’s party part of that same Government? Yes, it is.

4. Will Knezović’s party leave the Government, as I did when I disagreed with my party’s policies? No, it will not.

In light of these responses, Milatović suggested that if Knezović’s party seeks to act with integrity, it should exit the government immediately. He argued that only then would Knezović’s statements carry genuine weight.

Milatović’s remarks reflect ongoing tensions within the Montenegrin government, particularly regarding environmental policies and party accountability. The call for Knezović’s resignation highlights a critical moment in Montenegro’s political landscape, where accountability and transparency remain paramount issues.

As the situation unfolds, observers will be keen to see how Knezović and his party respond to Milatović’s demands and whether this will lead to any significant changes in the government’s approach to environmental governance.
