In a thrilling semi-final at the PDC World Championship, Luke Littler secured his place in the final by defeating Ryan Searle with an impressive score of 6-1. Littler, the reigning world champion, showcased his exceptional talents at Alexandra Palace, averaging 105.35 and maintaining an unbeaten record in major ranking tournament semi-finals. He will face Gian van Veen, who triumphed over two-time champion Gary Anderson 6-3 in a gripping match.

Unstoppable Littler Dominates Searle

The 18-year-old Littler demonstrated remarkable skill, overcoming an early setback in the match against Searle. After dropping the first set, he quickly regained his momentum. Searle initially impressed with a 10-dart finish and a strong average, but Littler’s relentless scoring proved too much for him. A pivotal moment occurred in the third set when Searle faltered, scoring only 15 points with his first three darts, allowing Littler to seize control.

Littler’s performance included ten 180s and a remarkable checkout percentage of 58.8%. He expressed satisfaction with his performance, stating, “I’m very happy with tonight—the doubles, the finishing, the high-scoring. It could have been a bit better but I’m happy to make it three consecutive finals at the World Championship,” in an interview with BBC Radio 5 Live.

This victory marks Littler’s third consecutive appearance in the PDC World Championship final, placing him alongside legends like Phil Taylor and Dennis Priestley. If he wins, he would become only the fourth player in history to claim the title in successive years, following Anderson’s back-to-back victories in 2015 and 2016.

Van Veen Claims Historic Win Over Anderson

In the other semi-final, Gian van Veen made a statement by defeating his idol, Gary Anderson, in a remarkable contest. The match began with Anderson taking the first set with a 104 average, but Van Veen quickly responded, leveling the contest with a stunning 117 checkout. His average in that set was an impressive 113.35, setting the tone for a high-stakes encounter.

As the match progressed, both players showcased their talents, with Anderson recording a 170 checkout and Van Veen hitting a 10-darter. The fifth set saw Van Veen recover from a 2-0 deficit to take the lead, averaging 111.46 while Anderson maintained a high average of 117.44. Ultimately, Van Veen’s resilience shone through as he clinched the match with a decisive 13-darter, booking his place in the final.

“To be in the World Championship final is not even a dream coming true because I wasn’t able to dream about this,” Van Veen remarked to Sky Sports. “Now it’s happened and I’m so happy.” This will be Van Veen’s first appearance in a World Championship final, adding to the excitement for fans.

The final, set to take place on December 23, 2023, will feature Littler and Van Veen in a best-of-13 legs format, showcasing two of the sport’s brightest talents. The match is scheduled to begin at 20:00 GMT, promising an exhilarating conclusion to this year’s tournament.
