Kane Scores 50th Bayern Goal in Thrilling 2-2 Draw
Harry Kane achieved a significant milestone by scoring his 50th goal for Bayern Munich in 2025 during a dramatic 2-2 draw against Mainz 05 on December 3. The England captain netted a late penalty in the 87th minute, ensuring his team avoided their first defeat of the Bundesliga season. This achievement marks the first time Kane has reached the 50-goal mark in a single calendar year for any club.
Kane’s impressive tally puts him alongside former Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski, who recorded 58 goals for the club in 2021. The match was particularly noteworthy as it was Mainz’s first league game under new head coach Urs Fischer, who previously found success with Union Berlin. Fischer took the helm last week after replacing Bo Henriksen following a disappointing start to the season.
Bayern Munich dominated the early stages of the match, with Kane opening the scoring in the 29th minute, converting a well-placed cross from teammate Leroy Sané. This goal was also Bayern’s 50th in the Bundesliga this season, a record achieved after just 14 matches.
Despite Bayern’s control, Mainz equalized just before halftime. Defender Andreas Hanche-Olsen scored with a header from a William Böving free kick, marking the 18-year-old’s first goal in the Bundesliga during only his second league appearance. The home crowd erupted when Mainz took the lead in the 67th minute, with a header from Bo Svensson following a deep cross.
Bayern’s head coach, Thomas Tuchel, made strategic changes in response to Mainz’s surprise lead. He brought on forward Mathys Tel, who was set to make his last appearance before joining the French national team for a match on December 21. The substitution proved crucial as Bayern continued to press for an equalizer.
With time running out, Kane was fouled in the penalty area by Mainz defender Szymon Potulski. He confidently converted the spot-kick, securing his 17th Bundesliga goal of the season. This late equalizer not only salvaged a point for Bayern but also reinforced Kane’s status as a vital player for the team in his first season at the club.
As the Bundesliga season progresses, Bayern Munich remains a formidable contender, and Kane’s contributions will be essential as they aim for further success in both domestic and European competitions.
