A vibrant crowd of approximately 10,000 residents and visitors gathered in Herceg Novi to welcome the New Year in a spectacular fashion. The town’s central square, Trg Nikole Đurkovića, buzzed with energy as the clock struck midnight, marking the arrival of 2026. Festivities included the descent of Santa Claus from the town’s iconic tower, accompanied by fireworks and performances from regional music stars, Haris Džinović and Neda Ukraden.

The celebration was characterized by a lively atmosphere, with attendees singing along to classic hits that have been cherished for generations. Džinović warmed the chilly night with beloved songs from his extensive career, while Ukraden continued the rhythm, captivating the audience with her performance. After the midnight countdown, a dazzling fireworks display lit up the sky, creating a memorable backdrop for the festivities.

In his remarks, the Mayor of Herceg Novi, Stevan Katic, expressed satisfaction with the turnout and the successful return of the New Year’s celebration to the main square after several years at a different location. He noted that the decision to move the event back to the central square proved to be an excellent choice. Katic highlighted the positive impact of early program announcements, which began in August, and the effective organization of the event.

“The old town is alive, and the turnout exceeded our expectations. It’s truly gratifying to see such a phenomenal atmosphere, with many tourists joining us from the region,” Katic stated. He emphasized that Herceg Novi has once again demonstrated its capability to host a magnificent New Year celebration, which enhances its reputation as a desirable destination during the holiday season.

Ukraden reflected on her long-standing connection with Herceg Novi, sharing that she held her first concert at the historic Kanli Kula fifty years ago. “It’s wonderful to be back in Herceg Novi, celebrating with the citizens and guests as we welcome the New Year,” she remarked. She conveyed her heartfelt wishes for peace, health, and happiness to the people of Herceg Novi, the Bay of Kotor, and all of Montenegro.

Echoing similar sentiments, Džinović emphasized the importance of hope and positivity in his New Year’s message. “The messages remain the same for the people of Herceg Novi and the rest of the world: we wish for peace, better living conditions, and more tolerance and understanding,” he said.

The festivities will continue on January 1, 2026, with a ceremonial New Year concert featuring the Camerata Herceg Novi chamber orchestra at noon. Conducted by Ivan Velikanov, the orchestra will perform a diverse program including works by Mozart, Puccini, and Tchaikovsky, showcasing talent from soloists such as soprano Nikolina Tomašević and violinist Andrei Baskin.

A repeat performance is scheduled for 21:00 on the same day, featuring popular artists Željko Samardžić and Vesna Zmijanac. On January 2, the celebrations will continue with a performance by Dženan Lončarević and the Tropico band.

The New Year’s program in Herceg Novi is organized by the local municipality, in collaboration with JUK Herceg Fest and the Tourist Organization of Herceg Novi, supported by numerous sponsors. This year’s festivities have successfully positioned Herceg Novi as a premier destination for holiday celebrations, promising more exciting events in the days to come.
