Heavy rainfall disrupted the Supercup volleyball match between Budva and Buducnost, leading to a suspension of the game. The match was halted in the first set with Buducnost leading 22:21 when water began to leak from the roof of the “Topolica” sports hall in Bar.

The rain caused significant issues, with water seeping onto the court due to a malfunction in the ventilation system. Following the 21st point scored by Budva, match officials noticed the leak, prompting a temporary halt to assess the situation. Compounding the problem, there was a brief power outage that affected the arena’s lighting, but that issue was resolved quickly.

Despite efforts to continue, officials determined that conditions were unplayable after approximately 50 minutes of deliberation. The decision was made to postpone the match entirely, and according to the Montenegrin Volleyball Federation (OSCG), a new match will be held over the weekend, starting from a score of 0:0. The venue is likely to be in Podgorica, and there will be no use of the Mondoflex flooring or challenge system during the rescheduled game.

Buducnost started strong, quickly taking a 4:1 lead and later extending their advantage to 14:10 with a 3-0 scoring run. They maintained this momentum, reaching a 19:14 score despite losing key player Srdjan Petrovic, who injured his right ankle after landing awkwardly at the net.

In a dramatic turn, Budva rallied late in the set, scoring three consecutive points to narrow the gap to 22:21 just before the match was halted. This interruption not only reflects ongoing challenges with the sports infrastructure in Montenegro but also highlights the unpredictable nature of outdoor sports events.

As fans await the rescheduled match, both teams will be looking to regain their form and capitalize on the opportunity to claim the Supercup title. The upcoming weekend promises to deliver an exciting rematch for volleyball enthusiasts.
