Hakin United Dominates Tenby with 3-0 Victory in League Match
Hakin United achieved a commanding 3-0 victory against Tenby on Saturday, solidifying their position at the top of the Manderwood Pembrokeshire League Division One. This match marked the only top-flight fixture played as many teams were engaged in the West Wales Intermediate Cup, allowing Hakin to extend their lead to five points ahead of the defending champions, Goodwick United.
The match started with Hakin showcasing their confidence, having previously defeated Tenby 2-1 in August. With the wind favoring them, Hakin took control early in the game. Jack Griffiths scored the opening goal just before half-time, converting after a well-executed play from Leon Luby. While Tenby managed to create a few notable opportunities, they were unable to find the back of the net.
As the second half unfolded, Hakin increased their lead when defender Cameron Thomas scored from 15 yards out on the hour mark. Tenby’s hopes of a comeback were extinguished when Ryan Wilson, the captain of Hakin, netted the third goal from close range. This victory marked Hakin’s sixth win in their last seven league matches, showcasing their strong form as the season progresses.
Reserves and Other League Results
In Division Two, Hakin United Reserves also maintained their top position, avenging a previous 3-2 defeat against Goodwick United Reserves. The match, played in windy conditions at The Obs, ended goalless in the first half. However, Hakin dominated the second half, with Hayden Dimond opening the scoring in the 58th minute, assisted by Tom Edmonds. Mason Dolling added a second goal with twenty minutes remaining, securing the win and moving Hakin a point ahead of Milford United.
In another match within the division, Monkton Swifts Reserves returned to winning form with a decisive 6-2 victory over Carew Reserves, currently at the bottom of the table. The Swifts established an early lead with goals from Rudy Poole, Nathan Ferrier, and Rhys Sture. Although Carew pulled one back through Mohamed Maamri just before half-time, the Swifts regained control in the second half, further extending their lead.
Division Three Highlights
In Division Three, early leaders Tenby AFC 2nds settled for a 1-1 draw against Broad Haven, who took the lead through Jack Morgan in the first half. Darren Gibson equalized shortly after the break, but neither team was able to secure a winning goal. This result allowed Haverfordwest CC to narrow the gap at the top of the table, as they secured a victory against Kilgetty 2nds with a late winner from Liam Sheehan. Haverfordwest built an early lead with two quick goals from Jason Griffiths, although Kilgetty fought back with a header from Morgan Chinsammy.
Division Four and Five Results
In Division Four, notable results included Hundleton’s impressive 6-1 win against Solva Reserves and a tightly contested 2-2 draw between Milford United Reserves and Milford Athletic. Neyland Reserves faced a significant defeat, losing 1-6 to Fishguard Sports Reserves, while St Ishmaels Reserves and Johnston 2nds ended their match in a 2-2 draw.
In Division Five, Lawrenny Reserves triumphed over Broad Haven Reserves with a 6-3 scoreline. Kilgetty 3rds suffered a heavy loss to Haverfordwest CC Reserves, falling 1-12. Other results included Milford Athletic Reserves losing 1-9 to Milford United 3rds and St Clears Reserves defeating Narberth Reserves 4-0.
As the league progresses, Hakin United’s performance stands out, and their consistent winning streak positions them as strong contenders for the title this season.
