Buducnost Voli Aims for Glory with Ambitious New Season Launch
At a vibrant event dubbed “Plava Noć,” President of Buducnost Voli, Dragan Bokan, announced the basketball club’s ambitious objectives for the upcoming season. The team is set to enter the season with a strong determination to achieve victories, trophies, and create a new chapter in its history. Bokan emphasized that Buducnost Voli is more than just a club; it represents a unified team, a vibrant arena, and a community dedicated to reaching the highest levels of success.
Bokan addressed the players, coaching staff, club management, and media representatives at the MTEL Moraca Hall, stating, “Buducnost Voli is a team that breathes as one. This season, we are coming in with high ambitions and immense energy.”
As the team prepares for challenges in both the ABA League and the EuroCup, their primary focus will be on the latter, which marks a significant change in strategy. The roster has seen significant changes, with new arrivals including Ukrainian point guard Oleksandr Kovlijar, American combo guard Skylar Mays, French forward Aksel Butej, and centers James Thompson from the USA and Jerry Butsiel from France.
Additionally, contracts have been extended for point guard Jogi Ferel and power forward Juvan Morgan. Other key players under contract include guards Rashid Sulejmon and Fletcher Magee, forwards Andrija Slavkovic and Đorđije Jovanovic, and power forward Nikola Tanaskovic.
While the team has bid farewell to centers Alen Omic and Judoke Azubuiki, star players from last season, MVP Kenan Kamenjas and another standout, McKinley Wright, have moved to Dubai.
Bokan also highlighted the return of Igor Đaletic to the coaching staff after a seven-year stint in Japan. Previously, Đaletic served as an assistant coach at Buducnost Voli, helping the team secure national titles in 2016 and 2017. His return is expected to bolster the team’s performance.
“Our players are ready,” Bokan stated. “This is a team with the strength to inspire, the talent to surprise, and the heart to fight until the last moment. This season will be an opportunity to showcase the value of hard work, discipline, and faith in victory.”
In a show of unity and support, Buducnost Voli unveiled new jerseys worn by players during the event, further energizing the fanbase.
Bokan expressed gratitude towards the club’s sponsors and partners, including Stadion, Erste Bank, NLB Bank, CKB, Porto Montenegro, and many others, for their unwavering support. He acknowledged the importance of these relationships in fostering the club’s growth and success.
“Special thanks go to Milojko Spajic, the Prime Minister of Montenegro, for recognizing the significance of sports to our nation,” Bokan continued. He also lauded the team’s loyal supporters, known as the Varvari, stating, “They are our wind at our backs, making victories sweeter and losses easier to bear.”
As Buducnost Voli gears up for the new season, the first official match is set for October 2, 2023, in the EuroCup against the London Lions. Group B rivals include teams like Turk Telekom, Burg, and Beşiktaş. The club will then face Subotica Spartak in the ABA League on October 5.
In his concluding remarks, Bokan reiterated the club’s clear goals: “Victories, trophies, and a new history. What motivates us most is the sense of community. Every basket, every rebound, and every victory belongs to all of you. It’s time for us to be louder, braver, and stronger than ever. Let’s show what it means to wear the blue jersey. Together—players, partners, fans, and friends—we are writing a new chapter of our story.”
The event also featured a written message from Dražen Drasković, President of the Gorštak Basketball Club, who expressed his support for Buducnost Voli and the significance of “Plava Noć” as a celebration for all basketball enthusiasts.
Buducnost Voli’s final pre-season check-up will occur tomorrow evening against city rivals SC Derby, offering one last opportunity to fine-tune their strategy ahead of the competitive season.
